President Muhammadu Buhari has commented on the tragic death of Bolanle Raheem, following the news of her pregnancy.

New information on the tragic event shows that the trigger-happy policeman who shot the deceased female lawyer on Christmas Day may have committed triple murders, as the husband of the deceased said that his wife was pregnant with twins when she was shot dead.

President Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement signed by his media and publicity aide, Garba Shehu, condemned the “heinous and senseless” killing of Omobolanle Raheem, a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) shot on duty policemen on Christmas Day.

Shehu said the President was “deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the brutal killing and directed the police authorities to take the strongest possible action against the culprits already held in detention.”

President Buhari described the incidence as “a stark reminder of the recurring menace of the mishandling of weapons and a wake-up call to law enforcement agencies, including the Police to ensure the full implementation of reforms instituted by the administration on the subject of weapons handling as well as the protection of the rights of citizens”.

“In this hour of grief, the nation stands in solidarity with the bereaved family and the NBA. I assure that justice will be done in this case,” the President said.

Gbenga Raheem, the husband of the deceased female lawyer had, during a visit by a delegation of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch, revealed that his late wife  was expecting twins as she had been pregnant for four months.
