Breaking: Chimaroke Nnamani Loses Senatorial Seat In Enugu

Former Governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani has lost his re-election bid in Enugu East Senatorial district in the Saturday, 18th March polls.

Nnamani of the Peoples Democratic Party, lost to the Labour Party candidate, Sir Kelvin Chukwu, based on official results from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC

The LP candidate polled 69, 136 to defeat Nnamani, who scored 48, 701 votes.

Chimaroke Nnamani served as governor for two terms from 1999 to 2007 when Sullivan Chime was elected.

He went to the Senate in 2007 and spent four years, but couldn’t succeed in his reelection bid in 2011.

In 2019, he got re-elected and has been there to date.

Kelvin, who won the election, replaced his elder brother, Oyibo Chukwu, who was assassinated three days before the 25th February presidential and National Assembly elections.

The death of Oyibo Chukwu led to the postponement of the election in the senatorial district to allow Labour Party to get a replacement.

Prime Business Africa reported that Chukwu and five others were allegedly shot and set ablaze in his Sienna bus at Amechi, Enugu South Local Government Area, while returning home from a campaign rally on Wednesday night, February 22.
