Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum has praised the efforts of security agencies in securing the state.
He said the state at present enjoys relative peace and stability due to the sacrifice of gallant soldiers, security agencies and the local vigilante.
Governor Zulum also extended his commendation to President Muhammadu Buhari for his leadership and the successes recorded so far in the war against terror in Nigeria’s Northeast region.
Zulum stated this in his welcome address to President Muhammadu Buhari who visited the state on Thursday.
Buhari’s visit was part of activities to mark this year’s World Humanitarian Day, scheduled to hold on August 19 (today).
Governor Zulum applauded the establishment of North East Development Commission (NEDC) and the ongoing installation of a 50MW power generation plant to provide electricity in the State.
He also thanked the President for the recent approval of N15bn for the repatriation of citizens from the North East living in Chad, Niger and Cameroon as a result of the displacement caused by the insurgency.
While in Borno, President Buhari directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and its agencies to ensure unimpeded return of Internally Displaced Persons in the North-East.
On her part, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq while speaking on the challenges faced by humanitarian aid workers in the crisis-ridden northeast region, disclosed that 35 aid workers have died, 22 wounded and 28 kidnapped since 2016.
She added that since the beginning of this year, six aid workers have been kidnapped in the country.
The ministry has chosen Borno State for this year’s event which according to the Minister was meant to highlight the humanitarian situation and plight of IDPs in the region and to inspire the much needed change of the situation.
Buhari commissioned the Bulunkutu Teachers’ Quarters on Airport road and Molai 500 low-cost housing estate for IDPs constructed by the State Government with support of the Federal Government.
