Black Panther’s Wakanda Album Features Nigerian Music Stars

Sequel to the Black Panther’s Wakanda Forever soundtrack released on Friday November features several Nigerian artists and Nigerians in diaspora who have taken the world by storm with their popular and exciting brand of music.

Burna Boy, Tems, Fireboy DML, Ckay, Rema, Tobe Nwigwe and Fat Nwigwe were featured in the album. Other African musicians like Kamo Mphela, Busiswa to name a few are part of the production.

Rihanna’s single ‘Lift Me’ , co-written by Nigeria’s fast rising award-winning singer, Temilade Openiyi known as Tems was the first to be released in the movie promotional effort.

Grammy award-winning Burnaboy, featured solo on the track ‘Alone’.

Tems performed Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry’ as a solo act. The song is reportedly bridged together with Kendrick Lamar’s “Alright.”

Mavins star Rema was featured on two tracks, ‘Wake Up’ with Bloody Civilian and ‘Pantera’ with Aleman.

YBNL artist, Adedamola Adefolahan known as Fireboy DML, also comes in solo on the track ‘Coming back for you.

Nigerian artist Ckay features British songwriter and singer Pink Pantheress on the track ‘Anya Miri.’

The Nwigwes, US rapper Tobechukwu Dubem Nwigwe (Tobe Nwigwe) teams up with his wife, Fat, on the track ‘They want it but no.’

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack album was produced by Director Ryan Coogler, composer Ludwig Göransson, Archie Davis (chief creative officer at Def Jam), and Dave Jordan.

Throughout the movie the audience will hear over 250 musicians, two orchestras, two choirs and over 40 vocalists.

Coogler was also majorly involved in creating the music for the film, from co-writing lyrics on the Rihanna track “Lift Me” to suggesting the cover of Bob Marley’s “No Woman, No Cry.”

The story inspired by Nigerian and Mesoamerican cultures, had recording sessions in Lagos, Nigeria, and Mexico City, Mexico, as well as Abbey Road Studios in London.

It will be screened in the theatres on 11 November and is the sequel to Black Panther (2018), starring Chadwick Boseman, who died two years ago of Colon Cancer at 43.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever features Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba) fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death.

Izuchukwu Okosi

Izuchukwu Okosi is a Nigerian sports and entertainment journalist with two decades of experience in the media industry having begun his media journey in 2002 as an intern at Mundial Sports International (MSI) and Africa Independent Television (AIT), owners of Daar Communications Plc. In October 2004, Okosi joined Complete Communications Limited, publishers of Complete Sports newspaper and Complete Football magazine as a reporter and later script writer for the Complete Sports studio. He worked there for 13 years until October 2017. Okosi also worked various times as Correspondent, Content creator and Editor at Sports Market International Magazine, Opera News, All Nigeria Soccer Media and Iconic Media Watch. He also undertook freelance writing gigs for some local and international organizations. Okosi is a member of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Association of Movie Producers (AMP), Association of Voiceover Artistes of Nigeria (AVOA), Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) and Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). He has been part of cast in some Nollywood movies and radio dramas including Blood Money 2, Scores To Settle, Dead End 2, Another Campus Tale and Battle Line. Aside mainstream media and the entertainment industry, he has interests in scouting/unearthing of talents in the sports and creative sectors, exports business and property development.
