Arsenal Tuesday evening returned to the top of the Premier League after a run of three draws and a defeat with an emphatic 3-1 win against Chelsea at the Emirates stadium.
The Gunners were ruthlessly efficient in the first half and 15 minutes into the second half but they let Chelsea gain some momentum which resulted in the only goal scored by the Blues.
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard scored twice in the 18th and 31st minutes of the game, two goals of surpreme qualities while Gabriel Jesus made it comfortable with a 34th minute close range goal.
Arsenal had some chances to extend their lead but Chelsea were strong in the second half and Nigeria-eligible forward Noni Madueke made his first league and scored in the 65th minute when the Arsenal defence relented on clearing their lines.
The game was the first start in the league for Madueke under Frank Lampard who did not list Carney Chukwuemeka in the matchday squad.
Granit Xhaka and Gabriel had their own chances of getting the Gunners more goals but were cleared off the line by Thiago Silva and a Kepa Arrizabalaga save.
Former Arsenal striker Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang had a, shocking game against his former club.
The Gabonese had only nine touches in the game with four of them coming from kick offs.
Aubameyang was saved from his agonising performance when he was substituted in the second half.
Arsenal are currently atop the league table with 78 points with four games left while Manchester City is behind with two games in hand.
Prior to Tuesday’s game, Arsenal were unbeaten in all 10 London derbies for the first time in 18 years.
City can return to the No 1 spot with a ninth Premier League win in a row at home to West Ham United on Wednesday.
Chelsea sit 12th on 39 points after losing four consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since March 1998.
