Arsenal Beats Tottenham, Establish 8-point Gap Over Man City

Premier League leaders Arsenal moved eight points clear at the top of the table with a 2-0 win over Tottenham in the north London derby at the Tottenham Stadium as Chelsea eased the pressure on manager Graham Potter by beating Crystal Palace 1-0 on Sunday.

Hugo Lloris conceded an own goal when Bukayo Saka’s shot rattled his palms and forced him to make an expensive gaffe that saw the ball squirm past his hands.

Captain Martin Odegaard, then made it 2-0 before the halftime break when his long-range shot beat the stretched hands of goalkeeper Lloris.

While there will be plenty of celebration from Arsenal’s men’s team following their 2-0 triumph over Tottenham, they took time to send a classy message to women’s team star Beth Mead after the game. A picture showed the whole dressing room united with a home shirt in the middle.

The shirt had print on the back that said: “Thinking of you Beth.” It comes following the tragic passing of Mead’s mother, June, earlier this week.

The Arsenal forward paid tribute to her “beautiful, kind and funny mum” following her battle with ovarian cancer.

A post on her social media read: “Thought long and hard about what to write but there will never be any words that will do justice. At 1 am on the 7th of Jan, our beautiful, kind, funny Mum & Wife passed away after a long & brave battle against Ovarian Cancer.

Meanwhile, the FA and Tottenham Hotspur put out a message condemning the attempted kick on Arsenal goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale by one of the Spurs’ supporters.
