Army Releases Nollywood Actor, Chwetalu Agu From Detention

NIGERIAN Army has on Friday released popuplar Nollywood Actor, Chiwetalu Agu from its detention.

In a video that went viral on social media on Friday, Agu was seen in between two persons who were representatives of Actors Guild of Nigeria, confirming his release at the 82 Division, Army Headquarters in Enugu State.

Soldiers on Thursday arrested the actor around Upper Iweka in Onitsha, Anambra State for wearing an outfit that looks like Biafra flag.

Agu said in another video that also went viral online that he was on a charity mission to the less privileged when he was arrested by soldiers because of his outfit.

As seen in the video, he was vigorously defending himself that what he was wearing only had an inscription of a rising Sun and had nothing to do with Biafra.

“I can wear this, it is rising sun, not Biafra, not Eastern Security Network. This is a civil dress. With my education, I know areas to go, areas not to go.

“I was sharing 10,000 worth of bread when he (refering to a soldier) came, no campaign, nobody was doing any demonstration or carrying people along. Even people who were hawking, I was giving them bread,” Agu had said.

Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu in a statement, said the actor was arrested for inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.

The Army also said the actor “dressed in a very well known attire of the proscribed group.”

There has been ongoing debate on various social media platforms over whose action was right or wrong between the Army and Agu.
