APC Deputy Publicity Secretary, Ajaka, Dumps Party To Pursue Kogi Guber

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Murtala Yakubu Ajaka, has officially resigned from the party to pursue his ambition of contesting the Kogi State 2023 governorship election.

Ajaka, who was a member of the APC National Working Committee (NWC) formalised his resignation from the party through a letter dated 17 May 2023 and directed it to the party’s national chairman, Abdullahi Adamu.

“I write to inform your good self and the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), of my decision to resign my office as the Deputy National Publicity Secretary and also as a member of the NWC,” part of the letter read.

He also stated that he has communicated the resignation of his membership of the party at the ward level to the Chairman of APC, Ajaka Ward I in Igalamela/Odolu LGA of Kogi State.

He extolled the national chairman for his astuteness and dexterity in managing the affairs of the party and uniting the members, leading to successes it achieved during the last general election.

“Kindly permit me to extol the exemplary brinkmanship, astuteness, sagacity, and political dexterity with which Your Excellency, being supported by the current National Working Committee has successfully bonded the hitherto fragile fabrics of the Party; firmly enough to record the most eminent victories in the last general elections. Having proudly won the presidential election therefore, I have the utmost faith that the Party, under your able charge will help the incoming administration to upgrade the standard of governance for the greater good of Nigerians.

“I also, by this medium wish to thank my fellow NWC members for their extraordinary camaraderie while we worked together. It is my hope that we are parting ways on the basis of principle, only to meet again, in due course,” he stated in the letter.

Ajaka was an aspirant for the governorship ticket of the APC for the November 2023 election but was said to have been disqualified from participating in the party primary held in Lokoja, the state capital in April.

In March, he was rumored to have been suspended by the APC in his ward for allegedly engaging in antiparty activities. However, the party later denied suspending him.

According to reports, Ajaka, who is of Igala tribe, and hails from Kogi East, senatorial district, has been adopted by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) as their candidate for the November 2023 governorship election in the state.

Analysts believe that his entry into the race through SDP will make the competition for the number one seat in the state an intense one as he will become a major contender against Yahaya Bello’s anointed candidate, Ahmed Usman Ododo, and Senator Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While Ododo is from Kogi Central senatorial district, Melaye comes from the Kogi West district.
