Anambra Security My First Priority – APM Candidate, Col. Onyejegbu

GOVERNORSHIP candidate of Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in the Anambra November 6 election, Col. Geoff Onyejekwu (rtd), has said that resolving the problem of insecurity currently ravaging the state would be his first priority when elected as governor.

Col. Onyejekwu stated that given his background as a retired Colonel of the Nigerian Army, he has better knowledge and experience needed to tackle insecurity in the state.

He made this known during an election debate organised by Prime Business Africa which rallied the candidates in the election to discuss issues bothering on security and economy of the state which they will and tackle when elected for the welfare and development of the state.

Responding to questions on the topic of the debate which says, “Anambra 2021: Security and Economy in Focus”, the retired security officer who is also an architect, said without adequate security there would be no meaningful development, hence his quest to tackle it squarely and restore peace in the state when elected.

“You have to secure the environment before you can think of fixing the economy, development issues. We are here today because there is no semblance of security.

“We know what the situation will be if security breaks down. This place will become very untenable for anyone to sit and listen or do this debate. Therefore, Anambra is seeking to employ one of us.”

The APM candidate also attributed the rising insecurity in the state to issue of marginalization of the Southeast which has forced people to agitate, causing instability as they feeling alienated in the distribution of dividends of governance.

Onyejekwu opined that if the people are given a fair share in participation on issues in the country, thereby giving them the perception of belonging, it would help in solving the problem.

He stated that aside security, he also has unique skills-set in business having been successful in business of importation for many years which he would deploy to help in addressing economic issues of the state that is predominantly a business environment.

The governorship aspirant added that he would work in collaboration with experts to take the state from where it is to where it should be.

The debate which was conducted virtually through zoom and Facebook, and anchored by renowned communication consultant, Dr. Okey Ikechukwu and veteran journalist and scholar, Prof. Nduka Otiono, had other candidates in the election like Dr Chidozie Nwankwo of African Action Congress (AAC), Dr Valentine Ozigbo of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Akachukwu Nwankpo of African Democratic Party (ADC), Ben Etiaba of Action Alliance (AA), Dr Obinna Uzoh of Social Democratic Party in attendance.

The host of the webinar debate, Publisher/Editor in Chief of Prime Business Africa, Dr. Marcel Mbamalu, thanked the candidates for responding to participate in the debate, adding that it was organized with no partisan interest, but to enable the candidates present themselves to the electorates and highlight issue they would address when elected serve.
