Abia Residents Pay More For Fuel In August, Kano Customers Spend Less

REPORT released on Thursday by National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicated that residents of Abia State paid higher price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as petrol in the month of August, with an average price of N173.14.

Other states listed in the report as having high average price of petrol include Ebonyi (N170.13) and Lagos (N168.31).

According to the report, the national average price paid by consumers for PMS increased by 10.87 percent year-on-year and decreased month-on-month by -0.58 percent to N164.91 in August from N165.91 in July 2021.

This means that Abia which recorded highest average price by states had a price difference of 5 percent in comparison to the national average price increase in the month being reported.

The NBS report also revealed that states with lowest average price for petrol in August were Niger (N162.00), Borno (N161.71), Kano (N158.75). This means that Kano residents paid cheapest price for petrol in the month reported.

In separate report for Automotive Gas Oil (diesel), consumers also paid more to get the product in the month of August as the average price increased by 1.34 percent to N254.21 from N250.82 in July 2021.

The states that recorded highest average price for diesel were Abia (N295.58), Oyo (N284.59) and Borno (N289.00).

The NBS report also stated that states where resident bought diesel at cheaper price were Kebbi, Kogi and Yobe with lowest average price of N214.17, N213.33 and N208.33 respectively.
