Nzuko Umunna, an Igbo socio-cultural think tank group, has endorsed Mr Peter Obi and Dr Yusuf Baba-Ahmed Datti of the Labour Party for the 25th February presidential elections.
The think tank has joined other notable groups and political stakeholders in supporting the presidential ambition of Obi and his running mate, Datti.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 15th February signed by the Nzuko Umunna’s president, Prof Chinedu Nebo and executive secretary, Dr Uju Agomoh, the group stated that among the top three contenders, Obi qualifies on all criteria it considered for choosing the right leader.

The group stressed that before going to the polls, Nigerians should consider the candidates based on character, competence, capability, moral uprightness, and corrupt-free.
The group also stated that in consideration of the need to ensure equity and justice in power rotation among the regions in the country, Obi is qualified because Southeast where he comes from has not produced a President of Nigeria in the current political dispensation.
“Is it morally right in a nation clamoring for unity, equity and fairness for a Northerner to succeed a Northerner, or for a Muslim to succeed a Muslim after eight years of occupying the post of President? Is it even socially or politically?” the group queried.
“From all indications, it is clear that one and only one of the candidates of three front runner Presidential candidates qualifies.
“Providentially, the same candidate is the most competent, articulate, knowledgeable, and robustly healthy. His name is Peter Obi, whose running mate is also a star technocrat, an astute business mogul, and a celebrated educationist.
“In choosing Peter Obi for President and Ahmed Datti for Vice President Nzuko Umunna is not by this endorsement endorsing any other candidate or political party for any other positions at the Federal and State levels during this electoral cycle.
“We, Nzuko Umunna, therefore, hereby unequivocally endorse Mr Peter Obi and Ahmed Datti of Labour Party (LP) for president and vice president of Nigeria,” the group stated.
