Atiku Abubakar
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has said his presidential ambition is unstoppable, noting that power belongs to God Almighty.
The former vice president said anyone trying to stop him should first make himself a president of Nigeria, adding that he is not perturbed by plots of five aggrieved governors, now popularly known as G-5 governors, to endorse presidential candidate of their choice.
Speaking through his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said he is an elephant that has seen everything, and cannot be taken by surprised by the antics of the aggrieved governors.
He words: “Atiku will be president. Whether the cock crows or not, the sun must rise. Power belongs to God Almighty; no man can arrogate to himself the powers of God Almighty. Any man who can boast of stopping Atiku should first make himself president of Nigeria.
“Atiku is an elephant. Even when an elephant walks on thorns, it does not limp. And when you have seen a snake, it cannot bite you anymore. In this case, we have seen the snake, how can we be taken by surprise?”
The G-5 governors led by Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has been agitating for resignation of PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu.
They have argued that both presidential candidate and national party chairman cannot come from the north that Ayu should resign for the position to go to south for balance of power as they earlier agreed.
With the insistence of Ayu to remain in the position and Atiku’s unwilling to let him go, the Wike and governors Samuel Ortom (Benue) Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu) and Seyi Makinde (Oyo) States decline to support Atiku.
Recently, they were rumoured to have traveled to London to arrange for endorsement of a presidential candidate other than Atiku.
A report that went viral had alleged that Wike granted an interview to BBC saying they have reached an agreement with presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to support him in the 2023 election.
On Friday evening, Wike however, denied it, saying such meeting never held and the G5 governors did not have any agreement with anybody.
He declared that they would make open their decision on who they will support.
