2023 Elections: Kaduna Govt Warns Citizens Against Protest

As results from the 2023 presidential and National assembly elections are being collated and announced, the Kaduna State Government has warned its citizens against partaking in any protest in the state, saying that it is prohibited.

This was contained in a statement by Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, released on Sunday.

The commissioner said that “Citizens must, therefore, avoid street protests over election results – or of any other kind – in order to preserve the atmosphere of calm so far experienced.

“Actions which may disrupt public peace will be handled decisively by security agencies,” he said.

Commissioner Samuel Aruwan also said that citizens should leave announcement of result to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“It must be stressed that the announcement of election results is the exclusive duty of the Independent National Electoral Commission.”

“Individuals or groups who may have queries over officially announced results are strongly urged to utilise the legal instruments provided by the Electoral Act.”

Nigerians across the country went to the polls on February 25 to elect the next president and national assembly members for the next four years.

With 23 Local Government Areas and being the state of the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate running mate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, Kaduna State is one of the crucial states being looked at.
